This genuine Water-ID DPD 1B liquid reagent is the Part B component used to measure free chlorine in pool and spa water using the established DPD colorimetric method. It is supplied in a 30 ml dropper bottle and is designed exclusively for use with the Water-ID PoolLab 2.0 photometer. Used together with DPD 1A, the pair delivers up to 250 individual reagent doses — enough for 125 complete free chlorine tests.

Why Free Chlorine Testing Matters

Free chlorine is the active disinfectant in your pool water, responsible for eliminating bacteria, viruses, and algae. Maintaining the correct free chlorine level — typically 1.0–3.0 mg/l (ppm) — is essential for swimmer safety and water clarity. Too little chlorine allows harmful microorganisms to thrive; too much can cause skin and eye irritation. Photometric testing with DPD reagents gives far more accurate, objective readings than colour-comparison test strips, removing any risk of human error in colour judgement.

How to Use

With the PoolLab 2.0 set to liquid reagent mode, add the specified number of drops of DPD 1A followed by DPD 1B directly into the cuvette filled with your water sample, then insert it into the photometer and read the result in mg/l. No tablet crushing is required. For best accuracy, read results promptly after adding the reagents. Replace the bottle once expired, as liquid reagents have a shelf life of approximately 6 months after opening.
