Littelfuse

Littelfuse makes circuit protection components, including fast-acting fuses such as the AGC series used in spa control systems. At PoolParthub.com you will find fuses for spa and hot tub control systems, like the 20A AGC-20-R. The right fuse lets you repair a blown circuit instead of replacing the whole control unit.

Littelfuse fuses for spa and pool control systems

A blown fuse is one of the most common reasons a spa pack, pump relay board or heater circuit suddenly stops responding. Littelfuse is one of the best-known names in circuit protection, and its glass cartridge fuses turn up inside control boxes, heater circuits and equipment panels across the pool and spa industry. Here you will find Littelfuse protection components that suit this type of equipment, starting with the fast acting AGC series.

What an AGC fuse does in a spa pack

The AGC is a glass tube cartridge fuse with metal end caps, in the familiar 6.3 × 32 mm (1¼ inch) size. Because the body is transparent, a blown element is usually visible at a glance: the thin wire inside is broken, or the glass is darkened and sooty. Inside a spa or pool control system, fuses of this type are typically fitted in a clip-style holder or a screw-cap holder on the printed circuit board, or in an in-line holder in the wiring loom, and they protect one specific circuit rather than the whole appliance.

Fast acting means the element is designed to open quickly once the rated current is exceeded, rather than tolerating a temporary surge. That behaviour suits low-inrush electronics and sensing circuits. Motors, blowers and other inductive loads draw a brief surge on start-up and are often protected with a time-delay type instead, so it matters that a replacement matches the characteristic of the original and not only its amperage.

Identifying the right fuse before ordering

Fuses look similar across a wide range of ratings, so it is worth checking a few details before you order a replacement.

  • Amperage – printed or stamped on one of the metal end caps, or marked on the circuit board next to the holder. The AGC-20-R is a 20A fuse; never fit a higher rating than the board or the wiring is specified for.
  • Body size – measure the glass tube from cap to cap. AGC fuses are the 6.3 × 32 mm size; smaller 5 × 20 mm fuses are also common in control electronics and will not sit correctly in an AGC holder.
  • Characteristic – fast acting or time delay. A time-delay fuse normally has a visible spring or a thicker slug of solder inside; a fast acting fuse has a plain, straight element.
  • Tension nominale – read the marking on the old fuse or the equipment label rather than assuming, and use a replacement rated for that circuit.
  • Quantité – many control boxes carry several fuses on different circuits, and it is sensible to keep a spare of each on hand.

If the markings on the old fuse have burned away, the wiring diagram or the exploded view for your control pack will usually list the fuse rating by position number. That is the most reliable way to confirm what belongs in each holder.

Why fuses blow and what to check

A fuse is a deliberate weak point, so a blown one is a symptom rather than the fault itself. Replacing it without looking further often means the new one goes the same way within minutes. Common causes in pool and spa equipment include water ingress into a control box or junction, a failed heater element that has gone to earth, a seized circulation pump drawing locked-rotor current, a damaged cable between the pack and a pump or blower, or a shorted component on the board itself.

Before fitting a replacement, isolate the supply, inspect the holder clips for heat damage or corrosion, and check that the terminals grip the end caps firmly — a loose clip generates heat and shortens fuse life. If the new fuse clears immediately, the circuit it protects needs testing before the equipment is put back into service. Work on mains-powered pool and spa equipment should always be carried out with the supply isolated, and by a qualified electrician where local rules require it.

Here we list Littelfuse circuit protection suited to spa packs, pool control boxes and heater circuits, including the 20A fast acting AGC-20-R glass cartridge fuse in the standard 6.3 × 32 mm size. Because fuses are consumable items, they are the kind of part worth keeping in the equipment room rather than sourcing in a hurry when the spa goes dark.

If you are unsure which rating belongs in a particular holder, send through the model of your control pack and the markings you can still read on the old fuse, and the matching option can be confirmed before you order.
