Praher pool fittings and hose connections

Praher is a name associated with plastic valves and pipe fittings used in swimming pool circulation, water treatment and irrigation systems. The components are moulded from rigid plastic rather than metal, which suits them to chlorinated and salted pool water, where corrosion and galvanic reactions are a constant concern. Here you will find Praher connection parts that join flexible hose to the threaded ports of pumps, filters, heaters and valves.

Connection parts are often overlooked until something leaks. A hose tail, an adaptor or a union is a small item, but it determines whether a pump draws air, whether a filter can be dismantled for service, and whether the pipework can be taken apart again in a year’s time without cutting it.

Hose tails and what they are for

A hose tail, sometimes called a hose adaptor or hose connector, has two different ends. One end carries a thread that screws into or onto equipment; the other end is a ribbed, stepped or barbed spigot over which a flexible hose is pushed and then clamped with a hose clip. It is the standard way of moving from rigid, threaded equipment ports to the flexible hose used around above-ground pools, portable pumps, sand filters and heat pumps.

The part listed here combines a 1½” female thread with a hose tail sized for 38 mm hose, in white, with a 6 bar rating marked on the part. In practice that covers a very common situation: a pump or filter with a 1½” male threaded outlet that needs to be joined to 38 mm pool hose.

  • Female thread side: screws onto a male threaded port on a pump, multiport valve, filter vessel, skimmer or heater.
  • Hose tail side: accepts flexible hose of the matching internal diameter, secured with a worm-drive hose clip.
  • Material: moulded plastic, intended for cold water circulation rather than hot or pressurised industrial duty.
  • Pressure marking: the 6 bar figure printed on such fittings refers to the fitting itself; the hose and the clip also set a practical limit.

Choosing the right size before you order

Two measurements decide whether a hose tail fits, and they are independent of one another. Getting one right and the other wrong is the most common reason a part has to be sent back.

  • The thread: 1½” here refers to the nominal pipe thread, not to any measurable 38 mm dimension. Check whether the equipment port is male or female — a female-threaded hose tail needs a male port to screw onto.
  • The hose: pool hose is usually described by its internal diameter, commonly 32 mm, 38 mm or 50 mm. Measure the inside of the cut end of the hose, not the outside, since wall thickness varies between brands.
  • The hose condition: hose that has been stretched over an oversized tail or has hardened with age may no longer seal; replace a short length rather than forcing the fit.
  • Clearance: allow room for the hose to bend away from the fitting without kinking, especially on pump suction lines where a kink causes air entrainment.

Sealing, assembly and typical wear

Plastic threads are sealed with PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant suitable for plastics, wound in the direction of tightening. Tighten by hand and then only a little further with a strap wrench if needed; over-tightening a plastic female thread splits the collar, often weeks later rather than immediately. Avoid metal-on-plastic combinations where a metal male thread is driven hard into a plastic socket.

On the hose side, warm the hose end in hot water to ease it over the barbs, push it fully home past the last rib, and position the hose clip over the barbed section rather than on the smooth neck. Clips, O-rings and the hose itself are the usual wear items; the fitting generally fails only from UV embrittlement, frost damage or mechanical stress. Drain hose connections before winter if the line cannot be protected from freezing.

Here we stock Praher connection parts for pool circulation systems, including the 1½” female thread to 38 mm hose tail in white under article number 0100412. Parts are listed with their thread size, hose size and article number so the fitting can be matched to the port on your pump or filter before ordering.

Quoting the article number, or noting the thread and hose dimensions from the part you are replacing, is the quickest route to the correct item. If a fitting is no longer marked legibly, measure the hose internal diameter and identify the equipment port, and the matching adaptor can usually be pinned down from those two figures alone.
