ECO heat pumps for small and medium pools
Here you will find the ECO range of air-source pool heaters: compact, single-phase units designed to be connected to an existing filtration circuit without specialist tooling. Both models in the range run on 230 Vac, are finished in black, and are supplied as plug and play versions with 32 mm connections, which is the pipe size used on the large majority of above-ground and smaller in-ground pools in Europe.
An air-source heat pump does not generate heat directly in the way an electric element does. It draws warmth out of the ambient air with a fan and a refrigerant circuit, then transfers it to the water flowing through the heat exchanger. That is why these units are typically used to stretch the swimming season at either end of summer rather than to heat water in the middle of winter, and why siting matters as much as sizing: the unit needs free air around the fan and the air intake, and a level base that will not transmit vibration into decking.

Two variants are listed, separated mainly by housing material and output:
- ECO Heat Pump Abs 2,6A 230Vac Black Type Plug & Play P3,5/32 — an ABS-cased unit rated at 2.6 A on a 230 Vac supply, with 32 mm connections.
- ECO Heat Pump Steel 230Vac Black Type Plug & Play 2,5 Kw/32 — a steel-cased version of the same concept, listed at 2.5 kW with 32 mm connections.
Both are at the compact end of the pool heating market, so they suit smaller water volumes, paddling and splash pools, plunge pools, spas and above-ground pools rather than large family pools. If the pool holds considerably more water than a small above-ground model, a unit of this class will take a long time to lift the temperature and a larger heat pump is the sensible choice.
How to check which version fits your pool
Before ordering, work through the practical points rather than the output figure alone:
- Rohrgröße — measure the outside diameter of the hose or rigid pipe on the filtration circuit. Both ECO units are listed for 32 mm.
- Stromversorgung — these are 230 Vac units. Plug and play means no hard-wiring is needed, but the socket circuit still has to be suitable for outdoor use and protected appropriately.
- Water volume and cover — a cover or solar blanket makes a far bigger difference to the result from a small heat pump than any other accessory, because most heat loss happens at the surface overnight.
- Position in the circuit — a heat pump is fitted after the filter, so that only filtered water passes through the exchanger.
- Housing material — ABS keeps weight down and resists pool chemistry splashes; a steel casing gives a more rigid shell. Choose according to where the unit will stand.
Installation and seasonal care
Fit the unit on firm, level ground with clearance in front of the fan and around the intake, and keep it away from corners where discharged cool air can be drawn straight back in. A three-valve bypass on the inlet and outlet is worth adding: it lets you throttle the flow through the exchanger and isolate the heater for servicing or for winter without draining the whole circuit.
Run the filtration pump first and the heater second; a heat pump should never be running without water moving through it. At the end of the season, drain the exchanger and the connecting hoses so that no water is left to freeze inside, disconnect the supply, and cover the unit in a way that still lets it breathe. During the season, keep leaves, grass clippings and insulation debris out of the fan grille, and hose the evaporator fins gently if they clog with dust or pollen, as a blocked coil costs performance before it causes any fault.
Common wear points
On compact plug and play heaters, the items that usually need attention are the external ones: union seals and O-rings at the 32 mm connections, hose clips, the condensate outlet, and the fan grille. Dripping water under a running unit is normally condensate from the evaporator rather than a leak, but it is worth confirming that the unions are dry and that the seals have not hardened. Take a measurement of any seal you intend to replace before ordering, as union sizes vary between manufacturers even where the pipe diameter is the same.

Here we list the ECO heat pump models that suit small pools and spas, in both ABS and steel housings, with the 32 mm connection size and 230 Vac supply that most domestic filtration circuits already use. The aim is to cover the straightforward end of pool heating, where the unit should arrive ready to connect rather than needing an installer.
Alongside the heaters you will find the fittings, hoses, clips and seals used to tie a heater into an existing circuit, so a bypass or a replacement connection can be sourced at the same time. If you are unsure whether a unit of this size matches your water volume, note the pool dimensions and the existing pipe diameter before comparing models.
