The HI971044C is a complete kit built around Hanna Instruments’ advanced Pool Line portable photometer, measuring five critical swimming pool water quality parameters in a single waterproof device: free chlorine, total chlorine, pH, cyanuric acid (isocyanuric acid), and alkalinity. Designed for pool owners, service technicians, and water treatment professionals, it delivers laboratory-grade accuracy in a compact, field-ready form factor.

Measurement performance

The photometer’s innovative optical system combines an LED light source with an 8 nm narrowband interference filter accurate to ±1.0 nm and a silicon photodiode detector, delivering fast, repeatable readings with no warm-up time required. Free and total chlorine are measured simultaneously from the same sample across a range of 0.00–5.00 mg/L (±0.03 mg/L ±3% of reading), pH from 6.5–8.5 (±0.1 pH) using an adaptation of the phenol red method, cyanuric acid from 0–80 mg/L, and alkalinity from 0–500 mg/L as CaCO3 — all compliant with ISO 17381:2012 and the US EPA 330.5 DPD colorimetric method for chlorine.

CAL Check system & user experience

A backlit 128 × 64 pixel LCD with virtual keys and an on-screen tutorial mode guides users graphically through each test step by step, while the log recall menu stores the last 50 readings with GLP data. The auto-off function activates after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve the three AA batteries, which support over 800 measurements per set.

What’s in the kit

The HI971044C is supplied in a carrying case with two measurement cuvettes with caps, liquid reagents for 100 free chlorine, 100 total chlorine, 100 pH and 10 cyanuric acid tests, a CAL Check calibration standard kit, a cuvette cleaning cloth, scissors, batteries and instructions. Note: alkalinity reagents are not included and must be ordered separately (HI93755-53 chlorine-elimination reagent is also required when measuring alkalinity).
