The HI983024 DiST2 is a waterproof pocket-sized TDS tester from the Hanna Instruments Pool Line range, measuring total dissolved solids up to 10.00 ppt (g/l) with automatic temperature compensation. It belongs to the DiST family of pen-style testers used for quick spot checks of pool, spa and make-up water quality. The housing floats and is sealed against water ingress, so it can be used at the poolside or in the plant room without a separate meter case.

What it measures

The tester reads total dissolved solids from 0.00 to 10.00 ppt (g/l), which covers typical pool fill water, circulation water and lightly mineralised source water. Automatic temperature compensation corrects readings for water temperature so results stay comparable across the day. It is a TDS instrument only and does not replace pH, free chlorine or ORP measurement.

Where it sits

Use it as a handheld spot-check device at the balance tank, backwash line, sample tap or directly in the pool. Readings are taken by dipping the electrode section into the sample up to the marked immersion level. It is not a panel- or inline-mounted probe and does not connect to a dosing controller.

Calibration and care

Calibrate against a known TDS or conductivity standard solution at the interval set by your water treatment routine, and always rinse the electrode with clean water after use. Store the tester dry with the protective cap fitted to protect the sensor. Batteries are user-replaceable through the sealed battery compartment.

Service life

The sensor gradually loses accuracy as it ages or if it is left to dry out with scale or biofilm on the electrode. Replace the unit when calibration can no longer be completed successfully or when readings drift against a fresh standard solution. Typical working life depends on how often the tester is immersed and on the aggressiveness of the water treated.

Supplied as a single complete tester, not as a kit with calibration solutions. Order TDS or conductivity standard sachets separately if you do not already stock them. The electrode is integral to the unit and is not sold as a separate spare part.
