G&G Industries – Ell Adapter 1/2-inch Male to 1/2-inch Ribbed Barb

The G&G Industries 73895 ell adapter is a 90° elbow with a smooth 1/2-inch male end on one side and a ribbed 1/2-inch male end on the other. It is a replacement fitting for spa and hot tub plumbing where a hose and a pipe have to meet at a right angle. The key difference to a straight connector is the bend, and the two ends are not identical: one is smooth and one is ribbed.

How the two ends work

Each end of the 73895 elbow is designed for a different type of connection, so it matters which side goes where.

• Smooth 1/2-inch male end: this side needs to be connected to a 1/2-inch female fitting in order to connect a 1/2-inch hose.
• Ribbed 1/2-inch male end: this side fits directly into a 1/2-inch pipe.

Because the angle is fixed at 90°, this adapter is the one to look at when your pipe and hose need to change direction at the connection point.

How to choose the right fitting

Start by checking the angle you need. This part is a 90° elbow with a 1/2-inch male end on both sides. If your connection runs in a straight line, a straight connector 1/2″ is a different shape and may suit the job better.

Next, check what each side will connect to. The smooth end needs a 1/2-inch female fitting for a 1/2-inch hose, while the ribbed end goes straight into a 1/2-inch pipe. Compare the diameters above with your old part to make sure the sizes match.
