The HI93720-01 is a set of genuine Hanna Instruments liquid reagents for the colorimetric determination of calcium hardness in water. Supplied in convenient dropper bottles, the kit contains enough reagent for 100 individual tests and is designed for use with compatible Hanna Instruments benchtop and portable photometers. Results are expressed in mg/L (ppm) as calcium carbonate (CaCO3), making them directly relevant for pool water management, water treatment, and quality control applications.

How it works

The reagents follow an adaptation of the calmagite method, as described in the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, 18th edition. When the reagents are added to a water sample containing calcium, a reaction takes place that produces a characteristic red tint — the deeper the colour, the higher the calcium hardness concentration. A compatible photometer then analyses this colour change to deliver a precise numerical reading within the 0.00 to 2.70 mg/L range.
