Poolstar Freeflo filtration pump fan cover – 0.25/0.37 kW

This is the OEM fan cover (couvercle de ventilateur) for the Poolstar Freeflo filtration pump in its 0.25 kW (1/3 hp) and 0.37 kW (1/2 hp) variants. It clips over the rear of the motor housing and encloses the cooling fan, directing airflow across the motor to prevent overheating during continuous pool circulation duty.

What this fan cover does in the Freeflo pump

The Freeflo’s TEFC (totally enclosed fan-cooled) motor relies on a plastic fan cover to channel air drawn by the rotor-mounted cooling fan along the motor’s outer fins. Without an intact cover, cooling airflow becomes uncontrolled, motor surface temperatures rise, and the built-in thermal protection trips prematurely or — in worse cases — the motor windings sustain heat damage. A sound fan cover is therefore a precondition for reliable, continuous filtration.

Which Freeflo models it fits

This cover is confirmed for the Freeflo pump variants rated at 0.25 kW (250 W, 1/3 hp) and 0.37 kW (370 W, 1/2 hp). Both share the same 585 mm overall pump length and the same motor frame dimensions, which is why a single fan cover spans both outputs. It does not fit the 0.55 kW (FFL-071), 0.75 kW (FFL-101), or 1.1 kW (FFL-151) variants, which use a longer 607–645 mm pump body and a physically larger motor frame.

Signs it needs replacing

Inspect the fan cover whenever you service the pump. Replace it if you find cracks running from any mounting clip, stress fractures around the ventilation slots, a missing or deformed retention tab, or visible impact damage. A cracked cover that is left in place will vibrate under motor resonance, shed plastic fragments into the plant room, and progressively worsen cooling. Thermal cut-out trips that have no obvious hydraulic cause — blocked impeller, low water — are a reliable secondary indicator that the cover or the fan itself has been compromised.

How to install it

Isolate power to the pump at the isolator before starting. The fan cover locates over the rear motor bracket and is retained by plastic spring clips; no tools are required. Align the cover with the motor’s rear flange, press each clip home in turn, and confirm all tabs are fully engaged before restoring power. The whole job takes under five minutes and does not require the pump to be removed from its plumbing.
