Poolstar Freeflo Racer strainer pot with 50mm metric unions

This is the complete strainer pot body (item #1 on the Freeflo Racer exploded diagram) for the Poolstar Freeflo Racer filtration pump range. It forms the pre-filter chamber that sits between the pool pipework and the pump volute, housing the strainer basket and protecting the impeller from debris ingestion. The two integrated 50mm metric swivel unions connect directly to standard pool pipework without any additional adaptors.

What this strainer pot does in the Freeflo Racer

The strainer pot encloses the HDPE strainer basket and creates the sealed pre-filter chamber through which all pool water passes before reaching the impeller. It carries the suction union inlet and the discharge union outlet — both 50mm metric — and its threaded top aperture accepts the separate cam-and-ramp lid. A moulded drain-plug boss on the pot body allows the pump to be fully drained for winterisation without dismantling the pipework connections.

Which Freeflo Racer models it fits

This strainer pot fits the full Freeflo Racer pump range: FFL-031, FFL-051, FFL-071, FFL-101, and FFL-151. All five models share the same mono-block chassis and 50mm union specification, so the pot is common across 0.37 kW to 1.1 kW variants. Confirm your model code on the motor data plate before ordering.

Signs it needs replacing

Visible cracks or stress-whitening on the pot body — particularly around the union bosses — cause suction-side air ingestion, which produces noisy, cavitating pump operation and a loss of prime. A pot that no longer forms a reliable seal with the lid O-ring, or that weeps at the union threads, should be replaced rather than repaired; heat-cycling and chlorinated water make adhesive repairs short-lived. Replace the pot together with the lid O-ring (R0009) and inspect the strainer basket (R0007) at the same time.

How to install it

Isolate the pump from the mains supply and close both isolation valves on the suction and return lines. Remove the drain plug to empty the pot, then unscrew the two 50mm metric unions from the existing pot body — they are hand-tight plus a quarter-turn. Unscrew the cam-and-ramp lid, lift out the basket, and separate the old pot from the seal plate. Fit the new pot onto the seal plate, reattach the unions to the pool pipework, refit the basket, check the lid O-ring is seated correctly, and close the lid. Refill and re-prime before restarting the pump.
