Davey – ORP Probe for ProMatic Lifeguard / Lifeguard Controller

This is the genuine Davey replacement ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) probe for the Davey Lifeguard pool chemistry controller, used with the ProMatic Lifeguard and ChloroMatic Lifeguard systems. The probe continuously measures the oxidising capacity of your pool water — effectively indicating how much active chlorine is available to sanitise the pool — allowing the Lifeguard controller to automatically regulate chlorine output and keep your pool safe and balanced.

Compatibility

This ORP probe is designed for use with the Davey Lifeguard controller (model series DPLGEU), as supplied with the ProMatic Lifeguard and ChloroMatic Lifeguard pool chlorination and chemistry control systems. It connects to the second BNC socket on the rear of the Lifeguard controller via a locking BNC plug — a connector deliberately designed to fit only one way. It is not compatible with other brands or non-Lifeguard Davey controllers.

What the ORP Probe Does and When to Replace It

The ORP probe measures the pool water’s oxidation-reduction potential in millivolts (mV); the Lifeguard controller’s factory default target is 650 mV, which corresponds to a safe and effective level of free chlorine. The probe requires initial calibration (soaking in calibration solution for 10 minutes) and routine recalibration every three months. Probes are consumable electrochemical sensors: over time they deteriorate, require increasingly frequent recalibration, and ultimately need replacing. Replace this probe when recalibration no longer restores reliable readings, or if the probe is physically damaged.

Why Genuine Matters

Using a genuine Davey ORP probe ensures the Lifeguard controller receives accurate, stable mV readings, which is critical for automatic chlorine regulation. An inaccurate probe can lead to under- or over-chlorination, defeating the purpose of the automated system. A genuine replacement also ensures the locking BNC connector seats correctly in the controller housing and that calibration routines built into the Lifeguard firmware perform as intended.
