The basket intercepts all solid debris drawn in through the suction line before it can contact the impeller. A clogged or cracked basket lets debris bypass the strainer chamber, accelerating impeller wear and risking a hydraulic blockage. Signs it needs replacing

Inspect the basket whenever you open the strainer lid. Replace it immediately if you see cracks, warped walls, or any splits in the mesh — even a small hole allows fine debris to pass through to the impeller, causing progressive wear. A basket that no longer seats flush in the housing or rattles under flow has also reached the end of its service life and should be swapped out before the next filtration cycle.

How to install it

Switch the pump off and isolate the suction and discharge valves. Unscrew or quarter-turn the Cam and Ramp lid — no tools required on most Freeflo configurations. Lift out the old basket, rinse the strainer chamber, and drop the new basket in until it seats fully. Refit the lid, open the valves, and re-prime the pump. The whole procedure takes under five minutes.
