How UV-C Disinfection Works

UV-C systems sanitise pool and spa water with germicidal UV-C light at 253.7 nm, which destroys the DNA of bacteria, viruses, algae, and chlorine-resistant pathogens like Cryptosporidium — without adding chemicals. The electronics unit ensures the lamp receives the correct voltage and current for consistent, effective UV output. Without a functioning ballast, no disinfection takes place.

Installation Notes

Switch off and unplug the UV-C system before working on it. Disconnect the old ballast and connect this replacement using the existing wiring. Type F (Schuko) plug included. For devices from 2015 or older, also inspect the quartz glass sleeve — aged quartz significantly reduces UV-C transmission even with a new ballast in place.
