How the manifold works

During normal filtration, pool water enters through the top diffuser, passes downward through the sand bed, and is collected by the manifold’s lateral arms at the base before being returned to the pool. During backwash, the flow is reversed: water travels up through the collector arms, lifts and flushes debris from the sand, and exits via the diffuser to waste. A fully intact manifold assembly is critical to both cycles — a cracked hub or broken lateral will allow unfiltered water or sand to bypass the media entirely.
