The HI72911B is a replacement pH electrode with a stainless steel body, an integrated temperature sensor and a flat measuring tip, terminated in a BNC connector. It belongs to the Hanna Instruments range of professional pH probes used with the HI98183, HI98184, HI98185 and HI98191 portable meters. In pool and water-treatment work it is the sensing element that the meter relies on, so it is treated as a consumable that is renewed independently of the instrument.

Designed for the Hanna Instruments HI98183, HI98184, HI98185 and HI98191 portable pH meters. The BNC connection carries the pH signal, while the built-in temperature sensor allows the meter to apply automatic temperature compensation. Confirm that your meter supports a combined pH and temperature probe before ordering, as models configured for a separate temperature probe are wired differently.

Fitting and use

Remove the storage cap, rinse the tip with distilled or deionised water and connect the BNC plug to the meter input, together with the temperature lead where a separate connector is used. Calibrate against fresh pH buffers before the first measurement and after every electrode change. The flat tip sits directly against the sample or surface being measured, so it should be rinsed between samples rather than wiped dry.

pH electrodes age continuously, even when unused, because the glass membrane and the reference junction degrade over time. Typical working life in regular commercial use is around one to two years, and the practical signal to replace is a slow response, an unstable reading or a failed calibration that cleaning does not resolve. Always store the tip in the supplied storage solution, never in distilled water, to slow down ageing.

Supplied as a single electrode; buffer solutions, cleaning solution and storage solution are ordered separately. The stainless steel body version is not interchangeable with plastic or glass-body electrodes with different dimensions. Check the SKU on your existing probe before reordering, as Hanna offers several flat-tip variants that differ in connector and temperature sensor.
