Signs it needs replacing

The clearest indicator is a persistent water drip from the weep hole on the underside of the pump body, directly beneath the motor face — this is the seal’s designed drain point and it will run steadily once the faces are worn or scored. You may also notice the motor running hotter than normal, vibration on startup, or a faint grinding noise under load as a damaged seal allows shaft wobble. Do not confuse a weeping seal with a leaking pre-filter lid O-ring; the location of the drip tells you which part has failed.

How to install it

Drain and isolate the pump, then remove the four motor-body bolts to separate the motor from the volute. Slide the old rotating face off the shaft — a circlip or slinger washer may retain it — then press or tap out the stationary seat from its recess in the pump body using a blunt dowel. Clean both housings thoroughly before pressing the new stationary seat in squarely, then fit the rotating face assembly onto the shaft. Reassemble in reverse; hand-tighten the body bolts in a cross pattern. Allow sealing faces to bed in for the first few minutes of run at low backpressure before returning the pump to full duty.
