This is the genuine OEM anti-return diaphragm for the Maytronics Dolphin EasyKleen, part of the DB series internal pump assembly. The diaphragm acts as a one-way valve within the pump circuit, blocking reverse water flow through the intake port between cycles and maintaining consistent suction pressure during operation. Without a serviceable diaphragm, the pump loses prime and cleaning performance drops immediately.

Seated at the intake port of the pump, the diaphragm flexes under positive pressure to allow flow and collapses shut the moment pressure reverses. This one-way action prevents water from back-flowing through the suction circuit, which is what keeps the robot’s pump primed and delivering steady vacuum to the cleaning head throughout the full cleaning cycle. A failed diaphragm breaks this cycle entirely — the pump cavitates, suction collapses, and debris is no longer retained.

This part is listed against the Dolphin EasyKleen as the primary parent model. Verified retailer data also shows SKU 9980220 cross-listed against the DB-series platform, which encompasses several models including the Dolphin Nautilus, DX3, DX4, DX5, Apollo, Atlantis, Deluxe 3, Deluxe 4, Deluxe 5, and Discovery ranges. Each unit in the DB series that uses this diaphragm requires four pieces in total. Confirm your model and serial number before ordering if you are outside the EasyKleen platform.

The clearest sign is a sudden drop in suction — the robot moves normally but fails to pick up debris, or debris is ingested and immediately expelled. You may also notice the unit struggles to maintain contact with the pool floor or walls under load. Physically, a worn diaphragm shows cracking, warping, or permanent deformation on its seating face; any deformation prevents a proper one-way seal and the part must be replaced rather than cleaned or adjusted.

Access the pump chamber by opening the robot’s body according to the EasyKleen service procedure — typically a few Phillips-head screws. The diaphragm seats into a recessed port and requires no adhesive or special tooling; press it flush, confirm it sits flat around the full circumference, and reassemble. The whole process takes under 15 minutes on a clean workbench. If your model requires four diaphragms, replace all four simultaneously to ensure uniform suction across all ports.
