The Davey Fan Cowl (part 404218) is a genuine OEM replacement motor cover for the StarFlo VS variable-speed pool pump range. It houses and protects the motor cooling fan, channelling airflow over the motor to maintain safe operating temperatures during continuous filtration cycles. This part is typically replaced when the original cowl becomes cracked, broken, or damaged — which can compromise motor cooling and lead to premature motor wear.

This fan cowl is a dedicated spare for the Davey StarFlo VS series of variable-speed pool pumps, distributed across Europe via Davey Europe. The StarFlo VS is designed for in-ground and above-ground pools up to 104,000 litres, as well as large swim spas and plunge pools. Always cross-reference your pump’s model label and Davey part number before ordering to confirm fitment.

Using a genuine Davey replacement fan cowl ensures a precise fit on the motor housing, maintaining correct clearance for the cooling fan and preserving the pump’s thermal management. Non-genuine covers may not align correctly with mounting points, risking vibration, noise, or reduced airflow — all of which can shorten motor life on a variable-speed drive pump that runs extended low-speed cycles.

Replacing the fan cowl requires disconnecting the pump from the power supply and removing the motor end cover. The cowl typically clips or screws onto the rear of the motor casing. While a competent pool technician can complete this task efficiently, it is recommended that installation and electrical checks be carried out by a qualified professional to maintain warranty validity and ensure safe operation.
