The HI73127 is a replacement pH electrode for Hanna Instruments HI981xx series pH testers. It screws into the base of the tester body and carries the glass sensing bulb and reference system that produce the pH reading. As a consumable sensor, it is supplied as a single electrode rather than a complete tester.

Fitting the electrode

Switch the tester off, unscrew the used electrode from the tester body and remove the protective cap from the new one. Screw the replacement in hand-tight, taking care not to touch or knock the glass bulb. Recalibrate the tester with fresh pH 7 and pH 4 or pH 10 buffer solution before taking readings.

pH glass electrodes age with use and gradually lose response, typically after roughly a year of regular pool duty. Replace the electrode when calibration fails, readings drift or the response becomes noticeably slow. Storing the electrode in storage solution rather than dry or in distilled water extends its usable life considerably.
