The Water-ID Alkalinity-M tablets are precision-engineered photometer reagents designed to measure total alkalinity (acid capacity / bicarbonate buffering) in swimming pool and spa water. Why Total Alkalinity Matters

Total alkalinity acts as a pH buffer — it determines how well your pool water resists sudden swings in acidity. The recommended range for most pools is 80–120 ppm. When alkalinity falls below this band, pH becomes unstable and water turns corrosive, damaging equipment, surfaces, and irritating swimmers’ skin and eyes. Conversely, alkalinity that is too high makes pH difficult to adjust and can cause cloudy water and scale build-up on pool surfaces. Regular testing is the only way to catch drift early and correct it before damage occurs.

How to Use

Collect a water sample in the clean test vial supplied with your PoolLab 1.0. Drop one Alkalinity-M tablet into the sample and allow it to dissolve fully with gentle agitation. Place the vial in the photometer and read the result directly on screen. Tablets are individually blistered in aluminium push-through blister packs of 10, protecting them from moisture and contamination for a shelf life of up to 2 years. Store in a cool, dry place at 15–25 °C away from direct sunlight.
