This is the OEM plastic capacitor housing — supplied complete with its fixings (visserie) — that protects and retains the run capacitor on the single-phase motor of the Poolstar Freeflo Racer filtration pump. It sits on top of the motor body, enclosing the cylindrical capacitor and anchoring it securely against vibration during pump operation.

What this capacitor housing does in the Freeflo Racer

The housing shields the run capacitor from water ingress, UV exposure, and mechanical damage. It keeps the capacitor correctly positioned against the motor terminals: a loose or cracked housing allows the capacitor to shift, interrupting the electrical contact that provides the phase-shift current the single-phase motor needs to start and run at rated power. Without a sound housing, even an undamaged capacitor can cause erratic starts or thermal-protector trips.

Signs it needs replacing

Inspect the housing whenever you replace the capacitor itself. Replace it immediately if you see cracks, warping, melted plastic around the fixing points, or if the retaining clips no longer hold the lid shut. A housing that no longer seals correctly exposes the capacitor terminals to pool-environment humidity, accelerating corrosion and shortening capacitor life.

How to install it

Isolate power at the circuit breaker and verify the pump is de-energised before opening the motor end. Discharge the capacitor by briefly bridging its terminals with an insulated screwdriver, then swap the old housing for this one, reattach the included fixings to the correct torque (finger-tight plus a quarter-turn — do not overtighten into the motor body threads), and reconnect the capacitor terminals in the same orientation as removed. Restore power and confirm the pump starts cleanly.
