This is the genuine Maytronics hexagon drive adapter that seats onto the D-type (flat-sided) motor shaft inside the Dolphin Supreme M5 drive train. It converts the D-profile shaft end into a six-sided hex drive, transmitting torque from the motor axle to the track or wheel drive gear without slip. Without it, the drive gear spins freely on the shaft and the robot stops moving.

The D-type shaft has a single flat face that prevents rotation, but the mating gear or sprocket requires a hexagonal interface to lock positively in all rotational directions. This adapter bridges that geometry change, sitting between the motor shaft and the driven component. Any wear, cracking, or rounding of the hex faces causes the drive to slip intermittently before failing completely.

The adapter is confirmed for the Supreme M5 and Supreme M5 Liberty as the parent product, and cross-reference data shows it is also used across a wide range of Dolphin platforms including the Supreme M2, M3, M4, M400, M500, Sigma, DX3, DX4, DX5, DX5 Plus, DX5 Battery, DX6, DX3s, DX4s, DX5s, and Atlantis. Always verify your exact model and motor shaft profile before ordering.

The cleaner powers on, motors run audibly, but the tracks or wheels fail to turn — or turn only intermittently. On inspection the hex faces on the adapter will be visibly rounded, cracked, or sheared. In some cases the adapter shatters from impact if the robot jams against a pool fitting; the fragments may jam inside the drive housing and damage adjacent gears if not cleared promptly.

Power down and disconnect the robot completely before opening the drive housing. Remove the relevant cover panel to expose the motor shaft, slide off the worn adapter, and press the replacement firmly onto the D-type shaft ensuring the flat aligns correctly. Reassemble the cover and test drive on a flat surface before returning the robot to the pool. No specialist tools are required — a flat-head screwdriver to release the cover clips is sufficient.
