The HI96779-03 reagents use the DPD (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) rapid method, an adaptation of Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (4500 ClO2 D). The reaction between chlorine dioxide and the DPD indicator produces a colour change in the sample, which is then read by a compatible photometer and reported in mg/L (ppm). Glycine in Reagent A acts as a masking agent that converts free chlorine to chloroaminoacetic acid, preventing interference from free chlorine and ensuring results reflect true ClO2 concentration.
