The Davey M1717 is a genuine OEM replacement transformer designed for the ProMatic ESC36pH salt chlorinator — the legacy Chloromatic controller with integrated pH control. It steps down the 230 V AC mains supply to the lower AC voltage required by the unit’s electronic control board and thyristor circuits, making it the heart of the chlorinator’s power delivery system. This part is available while stocks last and is suited to owners maintaining older ProMatic MPS/ESC/ESR installations.

This transformer is specifically designed for the old-style Davey / Monarch ProMatic ESC36pH chlorinator — the variant featuring a built-in pH control module. It is also referenced as compatible with the broader ProMatic ESC 36–48 and MPS 36–40 controller range. If you are unsure whether this transformer matches your exact unit, check your controller’s model label before ordering, as different output sizes (ESC16, ESC24) use differently rated transformers.

The transformer is typically replaced after an electrical fault diagnosis — for example, when 230 V AC is confirmed at the mains input but no voltage is present at the transformer’s output terminals feeding the control board. Symptoms such as a completely non-responsive controller or repeatedly blown fuses (once the thyristor and PCB have been ruled out) point to transformer failure. Replacing the transformer restores power delivery and brings the chlorinator back into full operation.
