The impeller generates the suction that moves water through the entire filtration circuit. Its rotating blades accelerate flow from the pool floor into the debris collection chamber, then discharge clean water back out through the exhaust ports. Without an intact impeller, the cleaner loses suction entirely: it may still drive across the pool floor but collects nothing.
